So I was reading the classroom logs from Ubuntu OpenWeek when I came across this question:

<honza> QUESTION: What is the preferred programming language for developing applications for Ubuntu?

<jono> for creating new apps, we often recommend Python – there is an awesome tool called Quickly which helps you get up and running quickly – it creates an example applications and eases how you write code, create user interfaces, commit to bazaar and generate packages

Okay. I’m interested. I read this post for some background and watched a couple of youtube videos. I played around with it for a bit and I have to say this is one of the most valuable projects I’ve come across in awhile. The defaults in the ubuntu-project template seem to be the following:

I’m no Ubuntu pro-developer, so to have a framework that is even slightly opinionated is a good thing. I’ve had to do a lot of research in the past to figure out what the best method for producing apps on Linux is which kind of put me off. It’ll be cool to see where this project goes in future.

Now all I need is an idea for an app.
